About the Acting Concentration

Acting emphasizes performance techniques from classical theatre to contemporary theatre and on-camera work. Acting students audition for productions starting their first semester on campus, giving them four years of stage time. We encourage you to study it all! You’ll develop skills in acting, singing, dancing, and behind-the-scenes. Many Acting students also study production, design, directing, creative writing, and education.

There are three concentrationsMusical Theatre, Acting and Theatre Production – available within the Theatre major. No matter what concentration you choose, the program has enough flexibility for you to follow your passions. No matter what concentration you choose, we want our students to be well-rounded theatre artists!

Heidelberg Theatre has taught me so much. As an acting major, I have learned many different types and forms of acting that have helped me feel prepared for my work in the theatre industry. Heidelberg is the place to be with amazing guest artists, a multitude of classes with different special topics, and many opportunities to act on stage. We are so fortunate to be able to perform on stage and help backstage, which helps to create a new appreciation for the art of theatre. With the fantastic faculty and students, you can learn, create, and expand your artistry in a welcoming and encouraging environment!
